Dropmore, near Cliveden, was built in 1795, the building is grade I listed. However, the main house had been so ravaged by fires in the Nineties that it was on English Heritage’s Buildings at Risk Register. Historic grounds, including a formal Italianate garden, pavilions, an aviary and Chinese tea house linked by 200 yards of ornate trellising, had been neglected or vandalised.
The site was undergoing a significant refurbishment by the client, converting the premises into numerous residential dwellings. As part of the refurbishment programme on the site, the client commissioned asbestos survey inspections during which friable asbestos insulation materials were discovered. Due to the construction of the building, many of the asbestos materials were concealed within the wall void and underfloor void locations.
Active were selected at tender stage by the client primarily due to both their project management team and site teams vast experience of working to remove acm’s on previous projects within grade I & II listed properties. The Active team have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in planning & coordinating projects in order to ensure both required asbestos control measures are strictly adhered to whilst ensuring that listed and retained features are protected and preserved during asbestos remediation works.
Due to the locations of the materials within confined spaces, Active had to deploy specialist confined space asbestos removal personnel to the site, with works completed in strict accordance with the safe system of work implemented on site by Active’s project management team.
All works were completed successfully in order to ensure four stage clearance air testing was able to be completed by independently appointed UKAS accredited analysts.
Following the works on site by Active the client has been able to continue with the site redevelopment which when completed will provide high end residential dwellings safe in the knowledge that potentially harmful asbestos materials have been professionally removed from the site by Active.
